Congratulations to Monica Ratliff, LAUSD Board Member (Elect) for District 6!

We congratulate Monica Ratliff, a 5th Grade Teacher, who won a historic upset victory against a corporate-reform political machine candidate in the election for LAUSD School Board District 6 (North & East Valley).  Adult Education showed strong support of Ms. Ratliff in her campaign.

Here is an article from LA OPINION newspaper from last week which shows her at a fundraiser on a rooftop in Downtown LA, overlooking LAUSD headquarters in the background.  Several Adult Education teachers and students were present at this event, which was the first fundraiser of her General Election campaign.

We look forward to working together with Ms. Ratliff in the future as we rebuild Adult & Career Education in LAUSD.

Stop Cuts to Adult Ed & Career/Technical Ed. Call today! (213) 986-2492

Why are Adult Schools slashing their Fall 2013 course offerings?  Here are just a few examples:

  • Evans CAS is cutting its whole Saturday program; its Certified Medical Assistant program is completely cut and 26 teachers have lost all or part of their hours.
  • Harbor Occupational is cutting its entire evening program.
  • West Valley OC is cutting 1 out of every 4 teachers;
  • East L.A. Occupational has been told they're cutting 30%; many CTE teachers, if they aren't being laid off, are having their hours reduced.

LAUSD threatens to cut 25% of Adult Ed program!

We're asking everyone, Adult Students, Teachers, School Staff and their family, friends and neighbors to call (213) 986-2492 to speak with the LAUSD School Board Member that represents your school.

It's super easy, just 3 steps.

  1. CALL (213) 986-2492
  2. CHOOSE ENGLISH OR SPANISH
  3. SELECT YOUR SCHOOL FROM THE LIST

Then you will hear talking points and be transferred to the school board member's office so you can tell them that we don't want anymore cuts to Adult Education.  We don't want anymore cuts to Career & Technical Education. We want summer school for Adults.

We know the money is there!  Proposition 30 passed and provided funding.  Now in Sacramento there is a $4 Billion surplus.  We need LAUSD School Board Members to prioritize their spending.
