About United Adult Students

United Adult Students (UAS) is an independent, not-for-profit advocacy organization. UAS emerged out of the budget cuts to Adult/Career Education that began in 2009, in which Los Angeles Unified School District began slashing and severely cutting back programs. In 2012, under the repeated threat of 100% elimination by the LAUSD's Board of Education, UAS rose up and successfully pushed back, working with other stakeholders in the region. That effort has been well documented in the SaveAdultEd.org website which is now a historical archive. In 2015 and 2016, UAS is working to hold all members of the Los Angeles Regional Adult Education Consortium (LARAEC) accountable to its own Vision Statement, which states that "LARAEC will sustain, expand and improve adult education...."
